BEAR VIEWING Over the last 20 years, bear viewing has become a very popular visitors activity. In the Southcentral Alaska region, the brown bear viewing season begins in June and continues through early September. Within the area are several locations where bears congregate, usually to feed in nearby streams where spawning salmon are abundant. Departing from Anchorage, most tours travel southwest, across Cook Inlet, towards popular viewing areas such as Lake Clark National Park, Redoubt Bay or Katmai National Park. As bear viewing tours are available to only a small number of travelers daily, advance reservations are required.
- LAKE CLARK BROWN BEAR TOUR - Take a scenic flight along Cook Inlet into Lake Clark National Park. Known as the Alaskan Alps, this is where the Alaska and Aleutian Ranges meet! This 4 million acre park is home to the Illiamna and Redoubt Volcanoes, which are visible on a clear day.Upon landing, a knowledgeable guide takes visitors to where the bears fish for spawning salmon. Viewing from an open boat (capacity 6 persons) allows for excellent photo opportunities. During the midday break, guests enjoy a hot lunch at the lodge or a shoreside lunch.
