CAR RENTALS
Over 25% of Alaska is accessable via the highway system. Renting a vehicle and self touring gives you the most flexiblitiy and convenience, at the least expense, when traveling our State. The Alaska Visitors Center represents rental vendors across Alaska and can provide you with vehicle rental services in most Alaska cities. Since we use several rental agencies, we can provide you with vehicles specificly chosen to meet your needs and requirements. We can also arrange courtesy service to/from most airports and lodging facilities.
Rental vehicles include: compacts cars, midsize cars, SUV's, 4x4's, trucks, minivans and full size vans.
RENTAL TIPS
  1. Unlimited mileage options are usually a more cost effective way for car rentals.
  2. Check with the rental vendor if you are planning on taking a rental vehicle across the Canadian border.
  3. Most rental agencies will provide courtesy service to/from local hotels or the airport.
  4. You can save money by using off airport rental vendors as they generally do not charge an airport service fee or airport tax.
  5. When renting a vehicle off airport, make sure the facilities operating hours will be convenient for both car pickup and car return. Courtesy services are available only during operating hours.
  6. Car rental agencies can provide you with a weekly or monthly rate. Using the weekly rate can usually save you 10% or more over the daily rate.
  7. Rental rates may change day to day depending on the number of vehicles available for rent. Signing the rental agreement locks in the rate.
  8. Generally speaking, the larger the vehicle, the more expensive the daily rental rate.
  9. Most car rental agencies will require the renter to be 21 years of age, have a valid drivers license and be the holder of a valid credit card.
  10. Many car rental vendors prohibit their vehicles from being used to travel on unpaved or unmaintained roads. Several roads in Alaska fall into this catagory, including the Denali Highway and the Dalton Highway. Before renting a vehicle, make sure you understand these policies.
